To me, the biggest red flag on Amato is the assistants that leave as soon as they get here. Maybe someone could post some stats on all the coaches who have left (many for lesser programs) under Amato. That and the obvious discipline problems and the amount of talent that he’s had and has done relatively little with it, are all signs pointing to a “fraud.” I think we’ve all known it since PR left but just didn’t want to believe it. I know I didn’t. You can cover it up for a while when when you have super-stars like PR, Mario, Manny, et al but I think it has finally caught up with Amato. He’s a great recuiter and great at inspiring the fan base, but obviously his assitants have seen through it and I think we on the outside are seeing it now too.

The assistants who have left..several went to places they had roots, or very close friends coaching. Granted it doesn’t bode well for the program in the short term (Ronald Curry comes to mind…4 OC’s in 4 years), but if other programs come after your coaches, then they recognize you’ve got a good thing going, and they want some o’ that. The fact that the level of assistants has declined steadily doesn’t bode well for now, but if we can get a good OC or DC from a top program (look at your ticket prices, we got the money) then who knows what’ll happen next. My prediction..Trestman opens the classifieds at the end of the year.

    Micky McCarthy Says:

“It is going to suck having to endure another coaching search with Jed.”

Did I miss something? Has Otama been fired or resigned?

    Mike Says:

“All I have to say is Trestman is terrible. I said that when we hired him. i said that last year. I said it after the ASU game. I said it and many criticized me. I stand behind what I said. I was a big Browns fan when he was in Cleveland and got run out of town. …”

Mike, do you have this copied somewhere and trot it out for everythread? This is the 3rd time I’ve read nearly this exact same post this week. Please! This is starting to acheive SPAM status.

    Texpack Says:

“Let’s just hope Chuck doesn’t turn it around late in the season.”

Ugh. pulling against the Pack? You don’t want your team to turn it around? Maybe the Wolfpack is not your team. I smell a troll.

SFN, Do you know this guy? If you do and vouch for him I’ll lay off. Just chalk it up to being upset. But know him or not, I don’t get pulling for the Pack to lose — for any reason.

    Wolfpack4ever:
No I dont have it copied. I said it a couple weeks ago, and I said it in the “active” posts that were going on. It is not SPAM, but our offense sure looks like SPAM these days.

Go back and read my posts from 2 years ago when he was hired, said the same things then that i am saying now. I want to win, and I am sorry, but I dont think we can win wiht this guy as OC.

Wolfpack4Ever~ you might be thinking about my comments. I said basically the same thing last weekend, and this weekend… sorry, but when something is true its gonna be pointed out by more then one person, more then one time!

When you can’t force your opponent to punt the entire game, I think it’s safe to say your problems extend far beyond the offense’s inability to move the ball.

I love the way you guys talk about Akron and Southern Miss like they are cupcakes. I am a Stone supporter and think our problems are much deeper than MS I do think it is fair to start to question whether or not he is the man.

  12. Wulfpack 09/18/2006 at 1:54 PM #

Why would Petrino even consider coming here? He’s got that program in a position to be a near lock for a BCS game. That Louisville-WVU game is going to be something else.

You can’t tell me we put Akron and Southern Miss on the schedule thinking we’d lose both games. Akron did lose to Central Michigan last week. A good solid MAC team, I’ll give you that. But to come into our house and knock us around, it’s very telling.

    WV for the national championship!!!!!

WulfPack- of course we didnt think we were gonna lose… because the HIGH AND MIGHTY ACC could NEVER loose to a Con-USA team and a MAC team in ONE season!!!! The ACC is a basketball confrence. The ACC had ONE good football season, last season. We still arent a power house. Need I remind you of how horrible BC played against CMU? how horrible FSU played against TROY!?

even AppSt wasnt the cupcake we all wished they would have been.

all that said, I still agree that we SHOULD have won all 3 of those games by more then 10 points. but shoulds and dids are two diffrent things.

TO EVERYONE WHO IS SO DOWN ON LOSING TO SO. MISS., I WOULD JUST LIKE TO GIVE YOU A LITTLE INFO. ON THEM, SO. MISS, HAS 12 WINNING SEASONS GOING FOR THEM AS WELL AS 8 BOWL APPEARANCES IN THE LAST NINE YEARS, THEIR WINNING PERCENTAGE OVER THE LAST TEN YEARS RANKS THEM 24TH NATIONALLY, COMPARED TO 43RD FOR NC. STATE, AND 82ND TO AKRON (PLEASE DON’T SAY AKRON IS BETTER THAN SO. MISS). WE NOW HAVE 20 ACTIVE NFL PLAYERS, INCLUDING BRETT FAVRE, PATRICK SURTAIN, AND ADALIUS THOMAS, WITH A HISTORY OF PRODUCING GREATS LIKE, RAY GUY, SAMMY WINDER, LOUIS LIPPS, AND HANFORD DIXON– I KNOW THIS ADDS VERY LITTLE TO YOUR DISCUSSION, BUT IT JUST MAY SHOW SOME OF YOU THAT SO. MISS IS NO PUSH OVER, THEY OBVIOUSLY AREN’T A POWERHOUSE BY ANY MEANS, BUT THEY DO HAVE SOUTHEASTERN CONFERENCE QUALITY PLAYERS, WHICH IS PROVEN OUT SINCE VERY FEW SEC TEAMS WILL PLAY US AND MS. STATE AND OLE MISS BOTH REFUSE TO PLAY US. WITH THAT SAID, THANKS FOR COMING TO HATTIESBURG, WE REALLY TRY TO GET GOOD OPPONENTS TO COME HERE, BUT VERY FEW COME DUE TO LACK OF MEDIA COVERAGE, HOPEFULLY ONE DAY WE WILL BE OUT OF OUR SUCKY CONFERENCE USA. AND YOU GUYS WILL RESPECT PLAYING US.

    Mike,

^ Sorry about that. It’s just that so much of the same thing gets said over and over. BTW I think Tressman is trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. I also think the West Coast Offense has had its day. Good pro DCs have got this thing scoped out. All a college DC has to do is call a coaching buddy in the pros and he can find how to defend it “like the pros.” Who runs the winged T anymore except High Schools. The WCO isn’t that passe but it has been solved — obviously.
