SI: Pack to go 1-7 in ACC

Link to SI’s ACC predictions. SI projects State to put together and abysmal 3-9 overall record and 1-7 in the ACC

Additionally, the publication ranks the entire country and provides a 5-minute preseason guide at this link. Of interest are the following:

(1) Ohio State
(2) Notre Dame
(3) Texas
(4) LSU
(5) USC
(12) Florida State
(15) Clemson
(17) Miami
(22) Virginia Tech
(29) Boston College
(32) Georgia Tech
(40) Maryland
(44) Virginia
(48) UNC-CH
(49) Southern Miss
(56) Akron
(63) Wake Fores
(67) NC State

(100) Duke
(106) East Carolina

* Initially, I feel as though NC State’s ranking is a little low.

* When I account for the variance between NC State’s ranking and the rankings for Georgia Tech, Maryland, Virginia, and UNC-Chapel Hill then I think the rankings are totally absurd.

* The ACC’s Atlantic Division is home to four of SI’s top 40 teams in the country. The Coastal Division is home to only 3. Additionally, Duke obviously brings up the rear in the Coastal, leaving little doubt which division is tougher.

Well, SI wrote off the Carolina Hurricanes before the last hockey season got underway, saying they’d be the biggest disappointment. Perhaps the Wolfpack will similarly defy SI’s predictions.

    Another opinion

    North Carolina State
Realistic best case record with this schedule: 9-3
Barring total disaster worst case record: 5-7
    Realistic record: 7-5
There’s only one absolute killer on the slate, Florida State, and NC State gets the game at home. The program has been flaky enough to lose to just about anyone, and the road slate has its share of landmines playing at Southern Miss, Maryland, Virginia, Clemson and North Carolina. Even so, if the Wolfpack can hold serve at home, or go 6-1 with a win over Boston College, this should be a solid year for Chuck Amato’s club.
    Sept. 2 Appalachian State
    Sept. 9 Akron
    Sept. 16 at Southern Miss
    Sept. 23 Boston College
    Sept. 30 open date
    Oct. 5 (Thurs.) Florida State
    Oct. 14 Wake Forest
    Oct. 21 at Maryland
    Oct. 28 at Virginia
    Nov. 4 Georgia Tech
    Nov. 11 at Clemson
    Nov. 18 at North Carolina
    Nov. 25 East Carolina
    – Almost certain win | Likely loss | Could go either way

Hey packbackr04, please lay off the comments about Stuart Scott’s eye. His family lives here in Raleigh and I know his dad and brother. Great people. Stu’s had a lot of surgeries on his eye and it’s very easily damaged.

Pick on his love of UNC, but not his physical ailments. He’s a good dude, as I’ve met him before as well (at a New Year’s Eve basketball pickup game with his brother) and he’s a normal guy.
