* First, don’t overlook this recent entry on Larry Davis’s signing or this one on Anthony McClain (with links to other recruiting articles).

* Speaking of recruiting…have any of our readers ever heard of a power forward named Tirell Baines? He is supposedly 6-7, 235 pounds with a 44-inch vertical jump and is reportedly being recruited by State, Wake Forest, and East Carolina. We can’t find him in either Scout or Rivals databases.

* News on Vinny Del Negro. (Link)

* Looks like the Wolfpack is suddenly competing with the Pitt Panthers for a large chunk of our 2007 class? (Link)

Could Chris Wright, Julian Vaughn and Michael Beasley play college basketball together? One might think that Kansas St would have a shot at such a class, however, Chris Dokish on his Panther Rants blog reports that Pitt’s nes Director of Basketball Operations David Cox is Already Paying Dividends for the Panthers and suddenly has Pittsburgh on the minds of several of DC’s finest ballers. Of course, Georgetown is in very good with Wright and Beasley is a current verbal commitment of Kansas St, but the Panthers are making their push.

Although many Panther fans follow the recruiting of local top prospects such as Herb Pope and DeJuan Blair, Jamie Dixon has brought more options to the table as the Panthers have widely broadened their recruiting base this offseason. Dokish also talks with Pittsburgh JOTS founder JO Stright on Pope and Blair to see where they are at in the middle of the busiest recruiting month of the year. Blair has additional Big East interest from Rutgers and Pope has always listed Louisville and UConn, along with Pitt and Kansas St, among his favorites.

“Whoever that young man may be, he will be more than greatly appreciated by all Wolfpack fans for a long, long time and will be able to look back and remember that feeling for the rest of his life.”
This is a good point that should be echoed here on this site more often. Deep down inside I think so much of the enthusiam that newly sorrounds the program has to do with our gut feeling that no one can sell this point as well as Sid. Many questions remain about the shape of the roster as Herbert left it, and Sid and staffs ability to mesh together for a cohesive X & O stragegy to compete in an elite league such as the ACC. There is no doubt that there will be bumps in the road, but we know that if Sid can deliver this message with his trademark smile and with the same confidence and intelligence that he displayed as a floor leader for the Pack then he can overcome many shortcomings.

A teamate of this Baines fellow was eligible for the NBA draft this year due to his age and post grad year. It said that if he didn’t go straight to the NBA that Georgetown could take him on. Honestly, with much respect given out to JT III, it really seems that every big name recruit is now being linked to the Hoyas. On messageboards and scouting links it is always mentioned that so-and-so would have a spot on the roster if so-in-so leaves early to the NBA. It makes logical sense, but it is highly unethical to assume that a player should leave as an underclassmen to go to the NBA. A rule was made a few years ago allowing the player to forfeit the use of an agent while testing the draft enabling him to retain his eligibility if he wanted to stay at school. The message coming from places like Georgetown is don’t bother, we are dangling the scholly you earned in front of others now. I remember when JT II fought for these kids during the prop 48 battles to have an opportunity to attend schools and play the sport they love as soon as they could, and as long as they could. What happened to that?

The positive feeling about Wake being involved is because of the league and the criteria they also require. It has nothing to do with Prosser’s coaching or recruiting ability.

Though you’d have to admit the coach did look pretty impressive, at least when he faced a more talented team from Raleigh, each time last season.
