850 The Buzz’s Blog keeps getting better and better. They turned around this entry about the winners and losers of the coaching search very quickly.
Like other traditional media outlets during the search, they even threw some praise our way:
State Fans Nation blew up during the coaching search. The guys who run that site decided to breakaway from the messageboard culture that creates tons of negativity and it was refreshing to see. State Fans Nation comes across as well connected and well informed. They were also armed with opinions and facts to make strong arguments. I don’t agree with everything they write, but I will never knock a different opinion if it’s backed with logic. My only issue was the tendancy to follow a report by Davd Glenn or print outlet with “we heard it too-type speak.
I’ve got no problem with that last comment, whatsoever.
Unlike Glenn’s focus of journalism, our focus is NC State. The last thing that we wanted pinned on us was something sensitive getting into the public domain that was going to negatively impact the search. Glenn has more experience making decisions what to disclose and not disclose.
To be fair, I trust some of Glenn’s sources much more than some of our own. Therefore, when Glenn would run something, then we often had validation on something we heard. If we had run everything that we had heard, we’d have been wrong some of the time. Since the focus and energy of our volunteer bloggers (who all have other jobs) isn’t on breaking the news, we weren’t going to risk losing credibility just of the sake of throwing everything against the wall.
Just to clarify – we weren’t saying “we heard it too” to get any kind of credit for the info…we were saying it so that our readers that didn’t believe Glenn would have another point of reference Additionally, we often elaborated more deeply than other media sources once news had become public.
