Zarzour: Today is the Day

This is a short one…so, while you are here take a look around and have some fun.

I don’t live in the Triangle anymore, so I don’t have the opportunity to listen to a lot of local sports radio. But, from what I can gather, Taylor Zarzour of 1090AM has done a very commendable job of covering the NC State coaching search.

Evidently, this morning Zarzour reported the following:

* Confirmed the obvious that Calipari was in Raleigh last night to visit facilities.

* Discussed Cal’s strained relations with Memphis’ AD and frustration with not being paid market value without so much prodding.

* Shared that NC State refused to offer Calipari a contract in Memphis. Told Cal that if he came to visit that he would be offered a contract.

* NC State offered the contract that pays $1.7 million a year with incentives that can get him to $2.0 million. The incentives were not ridiculous to achieve.

* I did not hear Zarzour, but my friend told me that Zarzour shared that he would guess/predict that Calipari would accept and be NC State’s next coach. That is not the same as the people on the idiot boards saying that Zarzour reported that Calipari was going to be our next coach.

* The answer will come today.

Hold on tight.

I don’t know about anyone else, but this whole thing has gotten to be exhausting.. are we doing shift rotations on SFN or what?

I generally agreed with Romey, but he always says that he will eventually piss off all his fans one day with his viewpoints on a myriad of subjects. Like Chiropractors.

Don’t forget that he is in LA, and he either doesn’t know much about NC State or doesn’t care because he is in the most self-absorbed city in the US.

” Yeah, NC State does have 2 nc’s, but so does Univ. of San Francisco “

If all this talk about Calipari is true I have to wonder why
    a) nobody can confirm anything-even ESPN or FOX
    b) either he is interested in the job or he isn’t. I mean come on, flying back and forth with God only knows how many phone calls being made in between. Surely something definitive has to be going on and can be verified.

I really hope we get Cal, and once we get him, you know he won’t leave: I mean, once you go Pack you never go back!

no doubt the big news folks don’t have crap and SFN has been on the brink of everything. no doubt.

    its final negotation time.

At several times over the last few weeks its been said: “there would never be a formal public offer unless the answer was known in advance.”

Now the offer might not have been announced formally, but it sure as hell was public. If he decides to stay now, I’d be very shocked.

  8. Jeremy Hyatt 04/11/2006 at 12:31 PM #

    that doesn’t mean anything

It would be ludicris for Memphis not to counter offer Calipari in a very big way when he came home last night…er… this morning. Come on guys… the Tigers are losing their best coach, and chance to be of any consequence in college basketball. They are pulling out all the stop sto se if he will change his mind and stay. My money is on the Raleigh Press Conference happening sometime this week to annouce Big John is a member of the Pack.
There was a previous point made earlier about waiting until after Erskin Bowels has his inauguration shindig to make the announcement.
