Zarzour: Today is the Day

This is a short one…so, while you are here take a look around and have some fun.

I don’t live in the Triangle anymore, so I don’t have the opportunity to listen to a lot of local sports radio. But, from what I can gather, Taylor Zarzour of 1090AM has done a very commendable job of covering the NC State coaching search.

Evidently, this morning Zarzour reported the following:

* Confirmed the obvious that Calipari was in Raleigh last night to visit facilities.

* Discussed Cal’s strained relations with Memphis’ AD and frustration with not being paid market value without so much prodding.

* Shared that NC State refused to offer Calipari a contract in Memphis. Told Cal that if he came to visit that he would be offered a contract.

* NC State offered the contract that pays $1.7 million a year with incentives that can get him to $2.0 million. The incentives were not ridiculous to achieve.

* I did not hear Zarzour, but my friend told me that Zarzour shared that he would guess/predict that Calipari would accept and be NC State’s next coach. That is not the same as the people on the idiot boards saying that Zarzour reported that Calipari was going to be our next coach.

* The answer will come today.

Hold on tight.

I’m just so excited about Sendek leaving I can’t stand myself. I will say that I felt bad for his wife and kids…no, not because they have to live with him…but because I sat behind them at the ACC tournament and his wife seemed like she might be on the verge of a nervous breakdown. She was so emotional…crying…screaming “I can’t stand it anymore”. That’s when I was hoping Herb felt the same way.

I just heard that Calipari is at the Wolfpack Club’s office having lunch. Take it for what it’s worth…

    And I’m not joking.

Nope…I actually refrained from my usual foul-mouthed demeaning banter about him due to his kids. I just screamed at the top of my lungs…YOU’RE DOWN TWENTY POINTS…DO SOMETHING…FULL COURT PRESS!!! ALRIGHT BOYS…GET IN IT!

    From the N&O:

.C. State appears willing to offer Memphis basketball coach John Calipari a total package worth about $2 million, a number Memphis is looking to match.

Whether Calipari is interested enough to be lured to Raleigh remained undecided Monday. Through most of the day, Calipari remained on the Memphis campus along with his coaching staff, according to the Memphis Commercial-Appeal.

Calipari gave no public indication of whether he would remain at Memphis or pursue N.C. State.

    BUZZ OF THE DAY

In the event Calipari and State cannot strike a deal, it’s not entirely certain where the Wolfpack might turn next. One coach on that list is likely to be John Brady of Louisiana State, but there are almost certainly others under consideration.

    WHAT THEY’RE SAYING

“They’ve asked, if we are needed, would we be willing to help and I’ve told them yes,” — Bobby Purcell, Wolfpack Club executive director, discussing the possibility that the Wolfpack Club would need to help fund the salary of the new NCSU basketball coach.

Dangit, these unsubstantiated rumors are killing me.

Needless to say…we didn’t do it till two minutes to go and we cut the lead in half. Herb just never was aggressive enough. Basketball should be attack, attack, attack at both ends of the floor.

Herb Sendeck is going to be on the Jim Rome show today. Wow. Romey is going to let us have it.

    JH You are correct!

I did not see too many Memphis games during the seaon. Watched them some on Direct TV (NCAA March Madness $59 package great deal!!!) in the tournament. Not much they were usually blowing people out & a better game was on elsewhere.

They attacked. They got hosed by the refs versus UCLA I thought. I was pulling for them against UCLA for some reason… must have been my unconscious plugged into The Force or something that made me pull for them. Then again maybe it was because I hate UCLA.

From a reliable source or just a rumor?

    Guys:
Could somebody keep an eye on tail no. EJA667. It’s an aviation complany plane from Charlottesville, scheduled to depart RDU for Memphis at about 12:30pm.
I’ve got to feign work for a couple of hours…

  18. GAWolf 04/11/2006 at 12:16 PM #

Can’t wait to see how Herb reacts to Rome trying to get him to bash us. You know he is…

  19. RAWFS 04/11/2006 at 12:17 PM #

Was the thing about lunch BS or real?

I will believe about anything at the moment.

pins and needles are a pain in the ass.

Sendek on Rome? wow, I’m calling the gf to tivo that immediately…

  21. GAWolf 04/11/2006 at 12:18 PM #

From a lawyer who I know had contacts with Sendek’s staff. I can’t say much more than that. I said, “Are you sure?” He said, “100% sure that that’s what I was told.” From my end it’s unsubstantiated, but from his maybe not so much. That’s all I know.

  22. GAWolf 04/11/2006 at 12:20 PM #

Real as in I didn’t just pull it out of my ass, and real as in the guy has some connections to the State basketball program… yes it’s real. Real as in definitely true, I can’t say.

  23. NCSU4LIFE 04/11/2006 at 12:20 PM #

Thanks GA for clarifying it. Hopefully it is a good sign if he is. I cannot wait to watch that idiot Jim Rome tonight.

Who was the QB who got into it with Rome a couple of years back? It was a heated argument.
