Zarzour: Today is the Day

This is a short one…so, while you are here take a look around and have some fun.

I don’t live in the Triangle anymore, so I don’t have the opportunity to listen to a lot of local sports radio. But, from what I can gather, Taylor Zarzour of 1090AM has done a very commendable job of covering the NC State coaching search.

Evidently, this morning Zarzour reported the following:

* Confirmed the obvious that Calipari was in Raleigh last night to visit facilities.

* Discussed Cal’s strained relations with Memphis’ AD and frustration with not being paid market value without so much prodding.

* Shared that NC State refused to offer Calipari a contract in Memphis. Told Cal that if he came to visit that he would be offered a contract.

* NC State offered the contract that pays $1.7 million a year with incentives that can get him to $2.0 million. The incentives were not ridiculous to achieve.

* I did not hear Zarzour, but my friend told me that Zarzour shared that he would guess/predict that Calipari would accept and be NC State’s next coach. That is not the same as the people on the idiot boards saying that Zarzour reported that Calipari was going to be our next coach.

* The answer will come today.

Hold on tight.

Hey, I heard Ovies on the Buzz saying something about the UNC-GA needing to sign off and no official announcement until Thursday. Wassupwidat?

It’s not so much a signoff as it is would be a courtesy on the part of NC State. Erskine Bowles is being inaugurated as the president of the UNC System Board of Trustees, and State doesn’t want our coaching announcement, if any, to overshadow EB’s big day.

That was my feeling on the t-shirts. Lunatic fringe was too small and NOWHERE on the shirt was a big, bad, red, block S.

    JimmyV, can you handle it?

dg on 850 now. says excercise caution. cal gave ncsu reason to believe he is coming. cal wanted 24 hours to have a final dicussion with memphis. dg says looks good for state, but we’ve been down this road before and not to jump the gun. says cal is to talk with memphis for last time today.

  19. beowolf 04/11/2006 at 11:28 AM #

DG said 24 hr period is up. Said it looks good for NC State but urged caution. (No kidding!)

And right now apparently he’s got call waiting & someone trying to tell him something on the other line.

^Sounds like everyone is acting very professionally. About what you’d expect.

Is it me or does Erskine Bowles not look like the guidance councelor on Southpark. ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm OK.

  22. PittsburghPackFan 04/11/2006 at 11:29 AM #

We’re glad to have you back camo.

    Don’t fret Pack fans…he’s coming.

Shawne Williams may be coming back just to help his teammates out with next year’s transition. Not to mention that just because you are eligible to be drafted, doesn’t mean you are ready for the NBA. Is it just me, or does everyone with a double-digit scoring average automatically think they are good enough for the pros?

Camo, where in Germany? I was a military brat growing up and spent time at both Ramstein and Heidelberg. I’m sure you’re pretty excited about getting back to the States, though!

  24. JimmyVguy 04/11/2006 at 11:31 AM #

Thank the Lord for the Military. You guys are tremendously appreciated by me.
