I hope the Barnes saga comes to a conclusion tomorrow, because damn it, I need some sleep. I don’t have any solid info, but my gut feeling is pretty good.
Pack Pride commented in their “coaching scoop” that it was a “very quiet” day. We didn’t have that experience today as we couldn’t keep up with the significant amount of chatter. We theorize that the difference is derived from the nature of our “sources” . Pack Pride obviously is much closer official representation of the Athletics Department whereas our network is more “grass-roots” that in some cases are close to certain key players in the process. And, it was a wild day for chatter:
* The day obviously started with perceived negative quotes in some local papers
* followed by a lot of ‘positive’ chatter from some sources that we generally felt pretty good about
* followed by some wind being let out of our balloon this evening
* We hear that this is the quietest that Lee Fowler has ever been. (I wonder how much those folks must be enjoying it?)
* Additionally, sources told NBADraft.net today that PJ Tucker will declare to enter the NBA draft a year early just one day after word spread that LaMarcus Aldridge was hiring an agent.
* We have also heard from some folks in Texas’ administration and booster organization that are very nervous behind the scenes about the potential that they could lose Barnes to State.
* Thank God that Jim Laranaga has secured an interview at Seton Hall on Thursday. Let’s please not mention that name again.
Ultimately, we expect that by the end of the night on Thursday that the Rick Barnes chapter of the NC State coaching search will have come to a close. We don’t know for sure if that will be the first or the last chapter in Barnes’ book at NC State.
