No News Doesn’t FEEL Like Good News, II

We apologize for any site problems that you may be experiencing or have experienced. What do you expect when this thing was put together to just be a regular old blog and has blown up as it has?

We didn’t feel very good yesterday afternoon. We felt better last night. We feel like shit today.

Today has been painful as a lot of Wolfpackers continue to wait and wait and wait.

* It seems that people in Memphis are feeling a lot of confidence related to the Calipari sitution. People close to Memphis have indicated to us that they think that they are going to retain Cal and that he has been playing NC State from the beginning.

* We are changing courses for a moment on when news is good news. We now think that if we hear anything “official” tonight then the advantage goes to Memphis. We PREDICT (no scoop) that State may be in the counter-offer stage right now. Our primary hope may be that we attach such a high value to Calipari in light of the public nature of the courtship that we offer an osbscene amount of money to him and tell him that the offer is only valid for as long as we are on the telephone together.

* If State is in a position to have to counter and offer more money, don’t let anyone tell you that it “isn’t about money”. As a friend of mine reminded me today, “It is always about money”.

* Dave Glenn has reported that the Memphis players have been told to keep their mouths shut on the situation and they are obeying.

* Memphis came to a contract agreement with football coach, Tommy West today. They obviously are in contract mode. The good news is that an official release regarding Calipari has not yet come.

* We are going to hold back from breaking down “ifs” right now as there will be plenty of time to debrief in the future. It is safe to say that NC State was led to believe that Calipari had much more genuine interest in the position than would be reality if he does not accept the job.

* We apologize for doing this, but this report from Baton Rouge is not going to make you feel any better:

LSU coach John Brady’s name remains high on North Carolina State’s list of potential coaching candidates, according to several media reports.

* For the record, we don’t like Brady as a candidate; especially a candidate placed anywhere near #3 or #4 of the Wolfpack’s list. We’d would much prefer to see NC State take a chance on a Billy Gillispie.

* We continue to worry about any candidate after Calipari on the State list as we’re not convinced that there is a next candidate. We pray to God that Lee Fowler has been engaged in serious talks with the likes of Jay Wright and Gillispie while under the cover of the media glare with Calipari (just as he failed to do during our talks with Barnes).

* Please relax. If State doesn’t land John Calipari, there will be other candidates. We have every reason in the world (other than John Brady) that NC State’s next coach will ultimately be a better fit and produce better long term results than the previous coach.

Does the name Temple Sloan mean anything to anybody in here?

The last hope I do believe..

Exactly, 420. I think it’s too late for anything to come out that we don’t already know, for tonight at least. There’ll be people in the Memphis area saying this and that abd starting rumors all night that can’t be substianted until tomorrow. Same with us, I’m afraid. We all, on both sides, want this so bad that we have to take each post with a grain of salt. I could say that in my opinion it’s a good omen that Cal wasn’t at West’s banquet, because if a deal was signed with Memphis and asked about it there, he could say so. If no deal was done or a deal with State was done, he wouldn’t show up because he has to avoid the questions until an official announcement. This is getting to be too much like politics. Sheesh.

Yes… Temple Sloan means something to me… and to NC State…

I believe NCSt8Austin has a point – right now he could be negotiating the deal to get the best program possible. If that’s the case, the longer we have to wait the better it looks that we will get him. If he was going to accept a new deal from Memphis, he would not have to take the time to bargain for anything new other than money.

that flight looks like it is going to end up in San Antonio.

  7. O Cain 04/11/2006 at 6:30 PM #

really like that guy, Marshall, at Winthrop. Why not interivew some others and make it public. But some pressure on Cal to jump before someone else takes it. Lots of people would love to have job.

Memphis TV has reported the team meeting with the players, that they came out “happy” and insinuated that he is staying put.

  16. Omega Wolf 04/11/2006 at 6:33 PM #

bohnman is right about the appearance for it to go on the San Antonio…maybe Cal is a Spurs fan? Or they will change flight plan when they get there….(queue dramatic suspense music)

A friend of mine in Memphis has told me that local TV Channel 3 has confirmed that U of M officials are currently at Cal’s home and has stated he is going NOWHERE. A deal will be reported soon.

    Who do we target??

    I feel like a 2 cent whore

  18. wolfpacker420 04/11/2006 at 6:33 PM #

primetime in the acc with taylor not packman today reports that channel 3 in memphis says cal is staying in memphis. take it what its worth.

  19. toph23 04/11/2006 at 6:33 PM #

Maybe a booster’s plane is heading to Memphis to pick some people up and bring them to Raleigh as a group. Maybe it’s a last-ditch effort. Maybe Memphis TV has a scoop, and the players came out of some meeting happy. Maybe they’re telling the audience a half truth that’ll keep Memphibians happy. Who knows? I’m not giving up.

  20. beowolf 04/11/2006 at 6:34 PM #

PackPride board is all about it being “official” that he’s staying.

If so, you can officially date the death of NC State basketball. Death by 16 years of mismanagement.

  21. Micky McCarthy 04/11/2006 at 6:34 PM #

The only thing on that flight is our heart. Temple Sloan is returning what John Calipari stole from us over the past 72 hours.
