No News Doesn’t FEEL Like Good News, II

We apologize for any site problems that you may be experiencing or have experienced. What do you expect when this thing was put together to just be a regular old blog and has blown up as it has?

We didn’t feel very good yesterday afternoon. We felt better last night. We feel like shit today.

Today has been painful as a lot of Wolfpackers continue to wait and wait and wait.

* It seems that people in Memphis are feeling a lot of confidence related to the Calipari sitution. People close to Memphis have indicated to us that they think that they are going to retain Cal and that he has been playing NC State from the beginning.

* We are changing courses for a moment on when news is good news. We now think that if we hear anything “official” tonight then the advantage goes to Memphis. We PREDICT (no scoop) that State may be in the counter-offer stage right now. Our primary hope may be that we attach such a high value to Calipari in light of the public nature of the courtship that we offer an osbscene amount of money to him and tell him that the offer is only valid for as long as we are on the telephone together.

* If State is in a position to have to counter and offer more money, don’t let anyone tell you that it “isn’t about money”. As a friend of mine reminded me today, “It is always about money”.

* Dave Glenn has reported that the Memphis players have been told to keep their mouths shut on the situation and they are obeying.

* Memphis came to a contract agreement with football coach, Tommy West today. They obviously are in contract mode. The good news is that an official release regarding Calipari has not yet come.

* We are going to hold back from breaking down “ifs” right now as there will be plenty of time to debrief in the future. It is safe to say that NC State was led to believe that Calipari had much more genuine interest in the position than would be reality if he does not accept the job.

* We apologize for doing this, but this report from Baton Rouge is not going to make you feel any better:

LSU coach John Brady’s name remains high on North Carolina State’s list of potential coaching candidates, according to several media reports.

* For the record, we don’t like Brady as a candidate; especially a candidate placed anywhere near #3 or #4 of the Wolfpack’s list. We’d would much prefer to see NC State take a chance on a Billy Gillispie.

* We continue to worry about any candidate after Calipari on the State list as we’re not convinced that there is a next candidate. We pray to God that Lee Fowler has been engaged in serious talks with the likes of Jay Wright and Gillispie while under the cover of the media glare with Calipari (just as he failed to do during our talks with Barnes).

* Please relax. If State doesn’t land John Calipari, there will be other candidates. We have every reason in the world (other than John Brady) that NC State’s next coach will ultimately be a better fit and produce better long term results than the previous coach.

Well I am still not sure if that plane that left RDU heading to Memphis was a last ditch attempt to get him to say yes to us, but my gut tells me he is staying put in Memphis. I would dare say alot of it has to do with uprooting his assistants and their families. If the money is neck and neck, I would assume he stays. Barnes stayed put due to not wanting to uproot and Cal will do the same. Just my .02
I hope I am wrong but again..if the money is about the same…..
There is also some speculation that he is wanting the AD of Memphis fired or forced into early retirement as part of the deal to stay in Memphis..If this is true, I do not want him here. That kind of behavior is bad business and is just too below the board for NC State.
    Again, my .02

Will Ced entering the draft affect Cal’s descision?

  3. hoop 04/11/2006 at 6:11 PM #

With losing Simmons and our previous commitments, we are going to truly suck next season.

And to pin all your hopes and despairs on radio hosts? Jim Rome is a radio host, and we all know he’s full of it.

    LISTEN…

This site is not designed and has NO INTEREST in being a place for kids to wastefully post shit that nobody cares about. We asked you to knock it off and then you immediately start posting one liners that do nothing but take up people’s time.

Go away if that is how you are going to interact here.

    EVERYONE needs to read this.

well guys who will be the next coach to use us for a raise?

  7. StateFans 04/11/2006 at 6:13 PM #

Calipari was undeniably in Raleigh last night. Why do you guys keep trying to debate that point. It is fact.

  8. JimmyVguy 04/11/2006 at 6:14 PM #

I think we should just go ahead and decide between Bobby Lutz and Greg Marshall and get it over with.

  9. cam 04/11/2006 at 6:15 PM #

we know he was in raleigh, he was only here to go that extra step to show he was not joking about leaving and wanted more money, took that extra step to get more cash.

  10. wolfpacker420 04/11/2006 at 6:15 PM #

maybe thats why ced is going to declare? what do you guys think?

  11. toph23 04/11/2006 at 6:16 PM #

exactly. If Cal was in Raleigh when the Memphis cats (and their biggest paper) said that he wasn’t, then their “insider” information is extremely suspect. If David Glenn says to be cautiously optimistic, than that’s what I am. We all know he has the goods.

  12. toph23 04/11/2006 at 6:18 PM #

I don’t think that Ced’s decision is based on coaching, I hear it’s family issues that are convincing him to go pro.

somebody tell me why all these people are changing there minds about calipari, there hasnt been ANY official news, just rumors

  14. Jeremy Hyatt 04/11/2006 at 6:20 PM #

    its alot of “psudo” leaks.

  15. NCSU4LIFE 04/11/2006 at 6:20 PM #

On the Memphis message boards they are reporting that there was a banquet going on and that Tommy West was there but no coach Cal. Now mind you Tommy West just signed a contract extention today if Cal had signed anything today do you know think he would have been there also.So why was Cal not there? This was reported by channel 3 in Memphis.

  16. wolfpacker420 04/11/2006 at 6:21 PM #

stop drinking the haterade fellas there hasn’t been any official word yet and I don’t think we will get one tonight. Keep hope alive and say your prayers for the best possible coach for the wolfpack. thats all we can do now.

  17. Jeremy Hyatt 04/11/2006 at 6:23 PM #

it seemed like we were on the brink of getting bad word

  18. NCSt8Austin 04/11/2006 at 6:23 PM #

IMO – if Cal comes now it only spells greatness for NCSU B-bal. My guess is he is negotiating for the kind of program he wants. Putting in place all the little peices that will get him the kind of leeway he wants to run the kind of program he wants. In a sense, I think he is negotiating for us – the fans, and for the kind of program that will allow him to retire a legend. Bring in all his assistants, chartered flights for recruiting, being allowed within reason to run HIS program the way he thinks best.

I coulda told you we werent’ getting Barnes – there is something about Austin that is just hard to leave – but Memphis, who becomes a basketball legend in Memphis ?

    Keep Hope Alive.

  19. Bleeds_Red 04/11/2006 at 6:25 PM #

Flight from RDU to MEM still in the air enroute..that flight for some reason holds the last hope for this to get done IMHO.

  20. bohnman009 04/11/2006 at 6:25 PM #

what kind of flight? private jet?

  21. BladenWolf 04/11/2006 at 6:26 PM #
