Coach Cal might not be back next season to coach the Tigers. The Eyewitness Sports team just uncovered John Calipari and his staff visited Raleigh, North Carolina Monday, to look over North Carolina State’s facilities.

    If Calipari sees this site, he won’t come because he’ll think we’re all a bunch of stalkers and he’ll be concerned for his safety.

    I can also say with certainty that John Calipari visited NC State late today with 2 assistant coaches, toured the campus by automobile, visited the RBC and Weiseger, and met with the Chancellor and AD. I’m not sure if he has returned to Memphis or will be staying the night.

    I’ll try to track down information, but the media out here is chasing things down just as frantically in Raleigh. I will say, however, that the furor is much more palpable in Raleigh than in Memphis. That speaks volumes to the enthusiasm of our fans.

    It sounds like we are trying to get a recruit…Cal knows what a big stadium looks like. He didn’t come to see a big basketball arena.

    The sports radio station was abuzz today, but not until late in the afternoon. I don’t think people believed he was serious until word of his trip to Raleigh got out.

    I think Cal has a double. Like that bad guy from season one of 24. It’s how he can be in two cities at the same time.

    FWIW, the husband of our Marketing Director where I work is a big UM donor and was stunned when I forwarded a link to this site this morning. As I said, I think UM folks got blindsided by this. They (including the AD) were slow to react.

    My information tells me that Calipari himself was amenable to the deal yesterday, but is (admirably) protecting his assistants by leveraging the situation to their benefit. He was sold on the deal yesterday. The trip today was to secure good deals for them today, while checking out the campus.

    We just went up there to the RBC….ABC11 was up there. We are students who were reading the site and left campus to check it out. We went up to talk to the security guards maning the players entrace gate at 10:15pm (is this normal?)…and they said no tour was going on and that we were technically tresspassing…lights were on all around and when we left we saw a guard get in his golf cart…ride around to the front entrance and check the parking lot before entering…dont know why he did this…maybe just a security check?

    WRAL sports Jeff Gravley {sp} reports Cal s group was in raleigh monday having diner with NCSU officials, and returned to memphis mondat night

    WRAL reports this a.m. that Cal and his group toured the bball facilities last night, but did not have time for a tour of the campus.
