Tommy Burleson Says it is “Time for a Change”

Tommy Burleson was on Triangle Sports Talk 1090 AM this morning and said that he thought “there needs to be a change at this point in time”. It would be interesting to know what DT felt about the situation.

Gosh, Jesse’s on the payroll too, how many people do Herb and Lee have paid to look after their interests? 🙂

  2. Lumberpack 03/16/2006 at 9:40 PM #

I mean look at the water that Packpride and the Wolfpacker carry for them. 😉

Me’thinks Mr. Burleson is officially off the Christmas Card list this year…

Can the Fowler/Sendek Spin Machine turn this outcry into a non-event? They’re good….. but they’re not that good.

hey tommy you must have been pretty good back in the day. you have a lot of support around here. i am too young to remember. hmmm i wonder if there was anyone else on those great state teams of the mid 70’s. oh yeah i seem to remember someone named david something.

“Nothing that anyone says will impact the team in Dallas. That’s just another lie cooked up by Herb’s cult. Herb’s supporters will say anything to protect their man, just like their waterboys will do anything to protect herb on the paysites.”

I wouldn’t speak so fast. I am by no means a Sendek supporter, but this could greatly get to the head of the players should this reach them. Here’s where you gotta do like Amato did and put your opponents game on every channel of the hotel’s tvs. Take out the radios, or whatever. Don’t let whatever the media says reach these guys. They’re still young, and something like this would affect them. That is why TB as great of a man as he is, though I agree with him, should have waited till say Monday for this.

what I took from the interview was it is largely based on ‘style of play’ and TB believes that our style and HS’s refusal to adjust is the problem. ‘Clock Mgt’ (Princeton) basketball is not going to get it done on an elite level where State belongs.

Really liked the emphasis he put on making a large investment in getting a big name, proven coach like Barnes…said the wolfpack club was “ready to raise the money” and could raise the money “if that’s what was decided” !!!

We need a proven winner at this point rather than taking a risk IMHO. The only guy in the family stable that’s somewhat proven is Nate McM. Get Barnes!

hey fish, i agree with you totally lets get a point guard to pass it to simmons under the basket so he can do his usual – commit an offensive foul or dribble it off his foot. why didn’t herb think of that?

Glad a former State player finally came out and said what we all feel

    Way to go Tommy!!

I appreciate TB bravely coming forward as a committed alum and x-bball star…but I must admit I question his judgement in recommending DT be the coach. Can someone please tell me why DT would make a good ACC coach against the likes of K and Roy? This seems like a rediculous gamble.

Jesse, the Newland Needle was one of the greatest centers to ever play in the ACC and the second best to play at State. It was his play, not DT’s that won the ACC Tournament’s in 73 and 74.

Staggering performance in shooting and rebounds against no less than the 2nd best team ever assembled in the ACC – Lefty’s Maryland team with Lucus, Elmore and Tom McMillian.

38 points, 18 rebounds in the title game against All Americans and future All-Pro’s.

Game in an game out Thompson was the man, but Burleson lifted his game after being snubbed by the All ACC Team vote.

i think tb should coach the team because he “has more knowledge of motivation in his little toe than Sendek has in his whole body.” that is if he’s available of course, you know, with all the job offers he has.

Tommy Burleson for governor! Wnat a statesman.

To Greg: Wolfpackers don’t give a crap if you last name is Murphy and you have a building named for yourself. Your commentary listed here is stupid and meaningless. Tnank god we have few of your kind in Wolfpack circles.

  18. Jeff 03/17/2006 at 6:59 AM #

Who says that greg is really in Wolfpack circles?

  19. class of '74 03/17/2006 at 7:26 AM #

    ^amen to that!

Thanks TB for saying what needed to be said.

Timing is everything. By speaking about this issue now TB has really stirred up everything. There is always a glimmer of hope everytime the tourney starts for every participating team. The situation can be debated better sooner then later. If the ‘Pack lose tonight one could assume TB would sound like any old Brooklyn Dodger fan, (“them bums!) if he said the same thing after the fact. He may be a christmas tree farmer, but he aint no dummy.

“Just curious…but…how does this impact the team before their NCAA Tournament game considering that they are in Dallas and have no idea that the event ever happened? ”

    Bingo,
Another in a long line of attempts to quiet what they do not like.

  23. wopacker1980 03/17/2006 at 9:27 AM #

Well I say that alumni and fans support the program in two ways: scholarship money, buying tickets.
We were told for years that what we needed to compete was a new building. So we have a new building and how many sellouts were there?

If the money turns agaist Herb he’s done.

  24. BJD95 03/17/2006 at 9:45 AM #

There would be a simple way for Sendek to take the pressure off his players. He even has a template for it – Mike Davis at Indiana. Announce your resignation now, and it all goes away.

  25. class of '74 03/17/2006 at 10:19 AM #

It’ll take a team of Clydesdales or the jaws of life to remove Herb I’m afraid.
