NC State’s Favorite Coach Advances To Sweet 16 (Again)

I can’t figure out which headline to run with my post game comments. Perhaps you have a suggestion different than these?

Well, parity was achieved w/ UNC! Wasn’t that the measure of success desired?

You mean #12 in the RPI UNC?

    Signed,

I am not sure if anyone listened to the post game. I heard the last 5 mins. Tony & Gary were jerking each other off talking about “if Brandon Costner wouldn’t have been injured, we could have had a different season” AND all about “Costner has unlimited range”

Can you imagine being those two guys? Having to get paid to spin sendek’s crap?

It’s going to be ok, let’s just schedule Lenior CC, Lees-McRae, etc and we will win 20 games again next year!

  9. Timbo 03/19/2006 at 9:21 PM #

Herbie, this coach seems to intentionally coach as bad as possible, so predictable is his offense that other teams no where to stand to defend it, so slow is this offense to get set that other teams can have a huddle before state is through with its mundane preparedness, so talented is this team that only a basketball hater could coach it this bad, so consevative is herbs coaching style that we may have a David thompson sitting on the bench that we have never seen( cameron bennerman) so ggod a coach is he that he managed to take a sorry Cedric Simmons who saw more pine last year than goergia pacific and turn him into a super star. if this guy is a coach, then my front yard will probably be full of aliens tomorrow morning dooking it out with Will Smith.

“Another predictable season ?” seems to fit the bill.

no wins against duke or unc!!!!!!!!!

    4th place regular season finish!!!!!!!!!

    Quarterfinal exit in ACC Tourney!!!!!!!!!!!!

2nd round exit in NCAA Tourney!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Another 10 Loss Season!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    etc!!!!!!!!!!!etc!!!!!!!!!etc!!!!!!!!!!!!

At best this headline ends this season and probably is a respectable headline to tip the season off with next year.

If it is this good I’d be very surprised.

Do you guys read this? Show us why Roy is the man! Have you seen Herb admit his coaching mistakes? It could be too many for him to keep up with.

After UNC’s 65-60 NCAA loss to George Mason on Sunday, coach Roy Williams said he made a mistake in the closing moments.

After senior David Noel made a three-pointer to tie the score 54-54 with three minutes left, Williams called for a press defense — because he had looked at the scoreboard, which still showed the Carolina trailed 54-51.

“In my mind, I thought something was wrong,” Williams said. “I called a press and we didn’t do a very good job on the press. It was a bad call on my part. It’s something as a coach that you hate to do to hurt your team.

“[George Mason] went down and David fouled a guy and he made two free throws. We never got the score tied after that.

“As a coach when you feel like you’ve not give your team the best chance to win, that’s something that’s hard to put up with.”

  12. BJD95 03/19/2006 at 10:01 PM #

In the NCAAT, Sendek’s best team = Roy’s worst team. They did get scoreboard on us twice, and bested us in the ACC regular season and tourney – but we caught ’em in the Big Dance!

“The game is very simple. We just got spread out and allowed them to penetrate. I’m sure it was a minor adjustment that needed to be made, we just didn’t do it.” Cam Bennerman answering media (N&O) question about some of the tough decisions that had to make guarding Texas.

Herb’s coaching styles just like you always play Lotto with the same 6 numbers: the chance for you to win?

    1 of how many millions?

You will think a guy holds a degree from a top US college would smart than that?

  15. vtpackfan 03/19/2006 at 10:33 PM #

“I thought we settled for some tough two’s rather than kick the ball out to the perimeter.”
Sendek’s response when N&O reporter asked him about the success they had driving to the basket at the end of 1st half.

Question. If Herb calls out to the media the players who aggressively take the ball to the rim and not the players who pull up from 25 feet out, then what is he telling these kids privately in practice or on the sideline?

  16. jesse 03/19/2006 at 10:40 PM #

this game was lost because state went cold from threes – 3 of 22. it had nothing to do with coaching. herb can’t make shots for these guys. ok site admin go ahead and delete this now since you disagree.

SFN: jesse, we don’t delete your comments because we disagree. We delete them because they are stupid

“I thought we settled for some tough two’s rather than kick the ball out to the perimeter.”

Yeah, and I thought that was the best 10 minutes of Wolfpack basketball I’d seen in over 15 years.

“this game was lost because state went cold from threes – 3 of 22. it had nothing to do with coaching.”
    ———

jesse is an idiot, per Excuse No. 2: “It’s not the coach’s fault the players miss the shots and turn the ball over”

    Excuse #2

  19. jesse 03/19/2006 at 10:44 PM #

i’m just giving my opinion. if you want to call people names like a three year old then go ahead.

  20. MurphNCSU 03/19/2006 at 10:46 PM #

“Herb can’t make shots for these guys.”

Yeah what Herb is supposed to do is realize that “these guys” have been missing threes for the past month and ADJUST the game plan.

  21. beowolf 03/19/2006 at 10:47 PM #

If I wanted to “call people names like a three-year-old”, I’d probably call you pooty butt or smelly head.

    Just FYI.

    jesse:

Do you know Herb? Hook up up. My shooting percentage for 3s in weekly picking games is near 40%. With this, I can make to Herb’s starting line up. And yes, I will be worse than 3 of 22, I may go 0 of 22. It is not Herb’s fault, just because I did not make the shots and played for 30 minutes.

    I have to love Herb!!!!

  24. jesse 03/19/2006 at 11:03 PM #

wolf1995, my point is that it was just one of those games where one team went cold. unfortunately it was state. over the course of the year state was one of the better 3 point shooting teams in the conference.

  25. withheld 03/19/2006 at 11:07 PM #

If the players are responsible for winning or losing, then what the heck does the coach do jesse? Is he not ultimately responisble for bringing in the players, teaching them, and leading them?
