    I know we’re behind Miami record-wise, but the upcoming schedule will change that. After Duke (clear #1) and State (clear #2), it’s really hard to differentiate teams 3-12 (all basically NIT/NCAA bubble caliber, IMHO). I never remember a more jumbled ACC that way. Very strange days, indeed.

    I was thinking the exact same thing^

    Interestingly… a couple of wins over the likes of State, BC, and Maryland by the likes of Clemson/FSU/UVA/Miami would really do a number of leveling the whole league in the computers.

    There are four teams with a postive record factoring in the home & away component of the schedule. Duke is plus 2, State, FSU & Miami are plus 1. Obviously, we really need to protect our home court.

    Yes. By being so unsuccessful against our Big Four Bretheren of Carolina & Duke, we are yet to build any real ‘cushion’. Wake is a desperate team right now. We can not afford to lose to them on Saturday.

    They are indeed desperate, but I like how we responded after our last loss. On top of that, Wake just isn’t a good basketball team (my Wake friends agree with my assessment).

    Wake has two of the best players in the ACC, so they can certainly beat us. I think they have struggled early, but IMO they still have a chance to be an NCAA tournament team. They need an upset on the road…like against us on Saturday.

    We need a win badly to keep the momentum going.

    If we are as good as everyone says that we are, we should go no worse than 14-2 or 13-3 this season in the ACC. (I am NOT taking into consideration the fact that we have already lost two games. It should not be a factor. Either we are that good or not.)

    In 2004, the final RPIs of the ACC’s top teams were as follows:

    (1) Duke
    (16) Georgia Tech
    (17) NC State
    (18) Maryland
    (19) UNC-CH
    (20) Wake Forest

    Currently, the conference has:
    * a single team ranked in the Top 20
    * 3 teams in the Top 25
    * 4 teams in the Top 30
    * 5 teams in the Top 41
    * 6th place team at #56

    Two years ago, we were able to go 11-5 against a conference that had 6 of the top 20 teams in the country. Everyone seems to be in complete agreement that this Wolfpack squad is much better than that team.

    Surely we should be able to expect a 14-2 type season against an ACC who has a single Top 20 team compared with SIX Top 20 teams a couple of years ago.

    I’m close to Jeff’s position, in that I think an ACC record of less than 12-4 would be a significant disappointment, especially given that we only play Duke once. But, it’s what we do in March that will matter most.
