Brothers Pizza closed its doors tonight.
“Brothers Pizza will serve its last pie tonight, ending a four-decade run as N.C. State University’s unofficial campus pizzeria.
The restaurant on Hillsborough Street is the latest in a string of inexpensive eateries gone bust on the university community’s traditional main street.
Opened in the early 1960s by two brothers from Greece, and largely unchanged since, Brothers became known as much for its array of Wolfpack mementoes as for its food. On game days especially, students and alumni crowded into its red vinyl booths. In its heyday, Jim Valvano, the late NCSU basketball coach, would dine there, and the basketball team would come in to greet fans and sign autographs.”
