Accepting the 4th Bid From the ACC…

…congratulations to the Maryland Terrapins, who punched their dance ticket with a dramatic double-OT win over the Virginia Cavaliers (Jeff, think CBS liked their pick of “feature” ACC games a little better than ABC?). Thus, NC State is now assured of having a win against an NCAA tournament team. For those of you who didn’t see the game, it did rival the GT/Wake classic for ACC “Game of the Year.” UVA hit deep, contested three after three – first to send the game into overtime, then to continue it past the first extra period. Then, they were undone by a failure to hit uncontested, 15-foot free throws. Basketball is a funny game sometimes.

So, for those of you keeping count, the ACC has 4 definite NCAA teams (UNC, Wake, Duke, MD), and possibly as many as 7 (GT, Miami, the winner of the VT/NC State game). It’s up to the bubble-bound how many actually make it to the promised land.

Sunday morning Sportscenter – ESPN just called Maryland a “Strong Bubble Team” while showing they were #22 in the RPI and have played the 8th toughest schedule in the country.

I think BJD has nailed this one and the network is missing this one.

Additionally, the Terps have Clemson, Carolina, and @ VPI remaining. You have to assume that they will win the Clemson game and be clinched in the eyes of everyone at that point.
